Kid us, do...

Hello Everyone!

Happy Children's Day to all of you!

This beautiful day, as we all know, is celebrated to mark the birthday of our first Prime Minister, Pandit Jawaharlal Nehru. He was, one man, who saw how important children are to the future of a country. Everything we will become, depends solely on how the the kids in our present generation, would make us to be. So this day holds a lot of value not just as a feel-good, do-good, kiddish day but also as an important day in our country.
I'll quote Angela Schwindt here:
"While we try to teach our children all about life, our children teach us what life is all about."

So anyhow! Let's treat our children with lots of love, respect and style! Let's give them freedom to express without being labelled 'kiddish'. Let's just give them a chance to do everything!

On this day, we thought we'd share things we have made for children in the past. Have fun looking!

Getting Super....

Hello!

We know we've been low on design updates and like I said in the last post, we were saving it for something big. But fret not! We thought we'd give you a little peek-a-boo here with a bag that I had painted for a very good friend.

Like many other people in the world, my friend too is a Superman fan. And like many other people in the world she too had stuff with the common Superman logo. So we thought, why not customize a Superman bag for her? And so we did! But with something little special...

We added her initial 'A' instead of the 'S' in the Superman logo. Voila! Her special bag had been made.

Sometimes I realize, being a part of Shoe Stopper makes gifting much more special for me as well as for the one who it's made for. Don't you think?

As for those who are wondering where they can show off a customized bag like this? Well, the answer is everywhere! For some hints, you can team these Eco-friendly, trendy bags with a lot of things.
You can carry it to college or even when you go shopping in a pair of jeans/shorts/skirt/anything! Just sling it on over your shoulder for that casual look.
You can even make it your holiday bag. A bag like this would come in handy as it has plenty of space to hold all the things you shop for. Plus it adds that totally cool look to your personality.

So until the next update,

It's been a while...

Hello!

True that we haven't been updating any of our online platforms. But no, we aren't out of orders (there's much time for that to happen). So what have we been doing? Well, you just gotta wait for the BIG news.
Can't wait? No? Not at all?
Well, then I'll just give you a little clue here and there.

First of all, we have recently updated our official website: www.shoestopper.com. What's new in it?
Well, there's more information about the brand Shoe Stopper, easy ways to get in touch with us, but the best feature added to make the website more user friendly is the How to place an order section.
Many of our shoppers had doubts about how to order and what is the process that they need to undertake to place an order. So, worry not, here it is!

Coming to the most exciting news of all: we are coming up with a whole new range of ready-to-buy products with our own original designs! Do I hear some woohoos? Hell yeah.
Until now, most of the photos you have seen of designs were made to order. But with this collection you will have never seen before designs made exclusively for our Shoe Stoppers.
However, that is going to take a little while more. Can't rush awesome things, can you?

So hang in there for more updates, because you sure will see a lot of them.

In-dependence, it is....

A loud Jai Hind to all my fellow Indians!

Happy Independence day!

As much as we don't wish to admit it, but slowly and steadily, indeed, the importance of this day is fading away from the hearts of the citizens of this vast country. Much like what is happening to the local and traditional arts and crafts that originated here. With the the very obvious modernization, very few people have regard for the traditional arts and value it as much. The worth of hand-painted, hand-weaved, self-made art products are diminishing rapidly, if they already haven't disappeared.
Bhuri Bai

Most of this art is passed on from one generation to another in the family. Many such artists live from hand to mouth and thus move on to other professions to earn a living. As a result, the entire country is at a loss of its culture and art. Sadly, most people don't even know the names of local art forms.
So, what can we do? Promote such artists. Buy products made using the knowledge of these artists. Indian art has survived centuries, so rest assured the quality is fantastic.
Lastly, we should be proud of our country and its heritage in every aspect possible. It isn't just the arts, but also literature, science inventions, music, folk dances, and so on and so forth.

Warli art
Let's not becomes apes to the western culture and be the one and only of our own kind.

Until the next post, and forever,
Jai Hind!

How to make Raksha Bandhan different this year?

Hello!
Raksha Bandhan is around the corner again and I, for one, am anticipating it as much as I do every year! Being a sister, I do expect to get the bestest gift and treatment on this day, which I thank our ancestors liberally for. I mean, isn't it cool to get a gift along with the promise of protection, which we do get in any case? :P And all this just for tying a band on your brother's wrist. Oh man, I love traditions!
So all the brothers out there, this is a sincere request from the Sisters Co. that please do something different for us this year! No more bag of chocolates, a book to read (that too of your choice *duh*) or some random piece of jewelry you asked your girl-friends to pick. Give us something we deserve!

Did the previous paragraph just scare a few brothers? Fret not Gentlemen! Why not have something customized for your pretty sister? Know her favorite band? Put it down on a t-shirt! Think she's a cartoon-freak? How about customizing a pair of shoes with the characters! Luckily, you don't have to do it all by yourself! How about asking me to do it for you?
Make Raksha Bandhan, 2011 cooler this year!

On an ending note, I usually do the painting around here, so I wonder what my brother has in store for me. . . Bro, are you reading? :P

Peace Out to all the siblings!

Infected by Potter mania.....

Hi back!

So how many of you have seen the last Harry Potter movie? I can imagine about a 100 hundred hands up to this question, and one of it is mine. For I, too, am "completely mental" about the Harry Potter world (books AND movies.) Now when the final movie came up, apart form a near depression and nostalgia, I could not help but wonder why I didn't  have any Harry Potter collection to wear? Finally the idea dawned upon me to paint some famous quotes and characters from the Harry Potter world for myself and for others, as well. So here it is!
The Harry Potter collection by Shoe Stopper!
So finally both, you and I, can have our favorite series on us in the most fashionable way possible. After all, we are the proud Potter-maniacs! Here are a few prototype pictures. Any suggestions, new ideas are welcome!

"I'm a Keeper."

Front: "I solemnly swear that i am up to no good."
Back: "Mischief managed"

Front: "Have you seen this wizard? (Sirius Black sketch)"
Back: "Padfoot was here."

Weasley is our king,
He didn't let the Quaffle in,
That's why Gryffindors all sing,
Weasley is our king!"

So this was the first look of our Harry Potter t-shirts. If you have any suggestions, queries or need more information about us, Contact us on:

Adding colour to birthdays..

Hola!

We have been busy working.. after all, it is one of those times of the year when a lot of birthdays drop on us. Year after year after year, gifting can be quite the confusing task. For all the birthday girls there are quite a few regulars on the gifts' list, take these for instance:
collages- gifted

clothes- gifted
accessories- gifted
perfumes- gifted more than once.
And where the guys are concerned, shirts, watches, perfumes, play station games are more passe than we can digest.
So what should you do? Well, take a clue from two of our own Shoe Stoppers Anita and Nivedita who did something really cool for their friend Sonakshi's birthday. What? Well, they got her customized shoes, of course!

And this is what the shoes were like. These special pair of shoes had everything doodled that the birthday girl loves: cupcakes, Kenny from south park, bugs, a guitar and lots more! cool, ain't it? Who wouldn't like a gift so well thought out apart form being really, really cool?
So next time you are in a soup, confused about what gift to get, you have one brilliant idea here.
We'll be back soon!

Oh shoot.... it's 0.55am!

Hola!

So it's 00:55 am on the clock and here I am juggling my Internet and painting addiction. The pair of shoes I'm working on right now (I'm not going to say what, good try) are proving tougher to be designed than I thought it would be. Such tiny details are required to be filled in that my size zero brush is proving to be quite colossal for its otherwise sleek personality.
Let's hope I get it right in the end. After all, it is going to be someone's gift! Gods of art, are you listening?

Art is never finished, only abandoned.

Art is never finished, only abandoned.
And our world which was beautifully adorned with the art of Maestro MF Hussain has only been abandoned, not finished. Every season comes to an end, and the season of MF Hussain’s beautiful life has also passed. Since we are artists ourselves, we truly understand the value and the nature of an artist as great as him.
A winner of the Padma Shri and Raja Ravi Verma awards, MF Hussain has been painting since the 1940’s. Known as the Picasso of India, he has religiously worked for over half a century in the field of art and even made artistic cinema for his audiences.
This, message is truly and wholly for Maqbool Fida Hussain. Let’s remember him, revere him and hope he rests in artful peace. After all, this is all an artist would want.
Hope the Indian master of art rests in colourful peace. Amen.
